This would create a Tesla on Autopilot less dangerous as a passenger car driven by a human driver.  The jury remains out since there were three deadly crashes with Teslas on Autopilot.  All accidents involved a vehicle or a static thing that is hard to check by current self-driving systems.

That is a sample too small to count statistically.   Therefore it’s still impossible to say if Tesla’s Autopilot is safer or more dangerous than a vehicle driven by an individual.

We would need at least a billion kilometers driven and several years longer to fully grasp how Tesla’s Autopilot fares compared with a car being driven by its human owner. 

Autopilot systems are intended to follow speed limits and traffic regulations, so, at least in theory, they need to be a lot safer compared to humans, particularly when utilized correctly.  However, before we have additional information, both Elon Musk and Tesla’s haters should refrain from using irrelevant data to forward their history. 

The fact is, even including other independent cars in the equation, we still do not have sufficient information to settle the dispute.
